The Final Countdown – San Diego 100
In 24 hours, I’ll be just a few minutes into my third 100 mile ultramarathon. This time, it’s the San Diego 100, which starts (and finishes) at the Al Bahr Campground in the Laguna Mountains about 60 miles east of San Diego.
I’m happy to report that as I go into the race, I feel good. I’m healthy and don’t have any nagging injuries. Even though – as I say every before every race – I wish I had trained more, my training went well and what I did should be plenty for me to have a good day tomorrow. All of my stuff is together – I have a plan for what I’m wearing, carrying, eating and drinking and have thought through some contingency plans for the probable hotter-than-expected day, colder-than-expected night, the chafing or other body discomfort issues that might arise and a variety of foods for when my stomach goes south. In other words, I feel ready to do this.
That all being said, 100 miles is a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g way to run and anything can happen. I could meet (or beat) my goal time or I could be crawling to the finish just hoping to beat the cut-off. No matter what, I’m going to give it my all.
If you’re interested, there will be live tracking at http://www.ultralive.net/sd100. I think that some of the aid stations are pretty remote, so who knows how “live” the live tracking will be, but it’s worth checking. You can also check the race director’s Twitter feed @ScottMillsSD100 and follow the hashtag #sd100. If you look around on Facebook, I’m guessing there will be updates there as well.
Check back here in the coming days for my initial post-race thoughts and eventually, a race report. Thanks to all for your support and love while I train for these crazy adventures!
Have a good run Josh, enjoy every part of it!
Yeah man…let’s DO THIS!
