White River 50

And, after what feels like a very long hiatus from racing (it’s been four months since the LA Marathon and almost eight since the North Face 50), I’m psyched to be getting at it again tomorrow morning at the White River 50 in Crystal Mountain, Washington.

The course promises to be challenging, with 8,700 feet of net elevation gain (and descent).  Here’s a fancy, colorful profile (click on it to enlarge):

The course is also supposed to be beautiful with views of Mt. Rainier in the background.
I’ve been running well and I feel like I’m in pretty good shape for a race like this, but as I always try to remind myself, you never know what race day will actually bring.  And I’m really not sure what kind of time I expect to run.  Usually, I look at the finishing times from prior years to get a sense, but for a bunch of years (at least 2001 until 2010), White River was the USATF National 50 Mile Trail Championship race, so the top-tier talent that showed up probably skewed the results.
The race does not have live streaming results online (sorry Mom), so you’ll just have to wait until I finish to hear how I did.  They will be tweeting at twitter.com/whiteriver50 and using the hashtag #wr50, so maybe I’ll get mentioned there at some point.
Otherwise, I’ll be sure to post something here when I can!
Wish me luck!
