Goodbye New York!
In a few hours, I’ll be getting on a plane to finally say goodbye to NYC. Even though I’ve been planning – and pushing – for this move for a long time, I have pretty mixed emotions. Excited to start our “new” life in LA; sad for what I think we’re leaving behind.
I got up before dawn today for my final run in New York City (for now, at least). I’ve been staying with a friend in the West Village and decided that for my final run, I’d do the course that I’ve done the most often in my time here – running along the path on the West Side Highway/Hudson River. In the seven years that I’ve lived in the Village, I’ve run on path at least a few hundred times. When I was training for the marathon in 2006 and my races in 2007, I was on the path a few times a week. It’s a great place to run – flat, smooth, nice views, no cars, running company at pretty much all hours of the day and night, and it’s been no further than a mile from my various apartments over the years. I got out there today just as the sky was turning light and ran south towards Battery Park. I brought my blackberry to get a few pictures.
The New Jersey “skyline” (above, behind me) across the river is one of my favorite views and seeing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (just barely perceptible below) is always an inspiration.
It was a great way to close out this chapter of my life.
I’m finishing up things at work this AM and then headed to JFK and then LA. Thanks again for following along. You’ll be hearing from me again on the west coast!
