#592

This is getting realer* by the second.

My taper post from late June was a little bit of a false alarm. Two weeks ago (four weeks out), I trained 12 hours and last week I trained 9.5 hours, including some hard sessions in each discipline each week.

But now, the taper has now really started. I’m scheduled for only about 6.5 hours this week, with very few hard efforts.

I’m starting to think about what I’ll be eating for the next 10 days and getting a little concerned about the weight that I’m sure to gain during that time. (Not that I’m worried about the weight, per se. There’s just no reason to carry extra weight around during the race.)

I’m making lists of all my gear and clothing and making sure everything is in order.

I’m exercising all kinds of restraint to not look at the weather forecasts. It’s way too far out. From last year, even 48 hours was too far in advance for an accurate Lake Placid forecast!

We leave for LP a week from tomorrow. The race is now just 11 days away.

I’m getting really excited! Not nervous… yet.

And bib numbers were posted online today – this year I’ll proudly wear #592.

*”more real”, I know, but I like the sound of “realer”
