Boys Will Be Boys
Saturday night was my annual Boys’ Weekend/Fantasy Football Draft. Part of me wishes that I had some pictures to put up here as evidence that I still know how to have fun, but I’m also glad that no pictures from that night of “fun” actually exist. (Not that anything that crazy went on, but I don’t think any of us needs there to be proof that we can still act like idiots!) I got up to my friend Sam’s place in Westerly, Rhode Island on Saturday and we spent the day swimming in the pond, doing our fantasy football draft, and then watching football. We spent the evening at Foxwoods (or was it Mohegan Sun?) and somehow made it back to the house in Westerly without getting arrested, ticketed, beat up or robbed. Yeah, us! It was a great time and nice to hang out with some of the guys that I don’t get to see that often (including one of my most loyal readers, Scott – thanks, again).
On our way home Sunday, we drove through part of the bike course for the FirmMan Half Ironman. At about mile 37 of the bike course, there was a turn around that crossed the street that we had to go on to get home. Traffic was pretty back up for a mile or so leading up to the turn-around, but this meant that we got to watch the racers go down on our right and come back up on our left. While we were stopped waiting for a break between racers, we hung out the windows and cheered the racers on. It’s funny that I’ve never actually been to a triathlon that I wasn’t competing in. It was fun to do it – and nearly everyone who passed us acknowledged and/or thanked us. I would go and cheer more often, but there aren’t that many races in New York – and I generally race in the ones that are here.
By the way, FirmMan looks like a great race. I’ll add it to my race calendar and keep it in mind for the future!

Firmman is in my hometown! The swim takes place on the beach I lifeguarded at growing up in RI. It’s on my must do list at some point in life.
