Alaska – Day 3

Today is a “sea day” – we’re somewhere in between Endicott Arm and Tracy Arm (two Alaskan fjords) sailing through fields of icebergs. It’s beautiful scenery. Many of the floating icebergs are this shimmering bright blue. The other colors are the deep green water, the green, tree-covered mountains on either side of the ship, white snow and the grey sky. Elizabeth and I were actually up at 5AM (don’t ask why, I have no idea!) and watched the sun rise and saw a bunch of whales swimming past the ship. The cruise has been fun so far – we’re having a nice time with family, and Emma and Dan’s wedding was last night. Cruises are mostly about food and I’ve definitely eaten my share! Yesterday we visited Juneau, our first port. We spent the first part of the visit walking around with my parents and Loren and Aaron and then checked out the state museum. After that, and some lunch, I went for a nice, easy run around the port area. The gym on board the ship is pretty nice, and perfectly adequate for the little bit of strength training that I want to be doing these days. I’m going to try to get a run in at one of our ports every other day, but if I can’t run outside there are treadmills in the gym. On the days between runs, I’m going to go to the gym and do some core work and strength training. My main goals for this week are to burn just enough calories so that I don’t put on too much weight and run enough not to lose too much fitness, so that I can get right back at it when we’re home next week.

Run – August 5

Average heart rate: 143

Hey Josh. I took some time off from blogging after IMLP, so I am way behind with dropping you a comment. First things first, awesome job on 7/22! You were flying out there all day. I’m completely jealous over this Alaskan cruise you are on as well. It sounds terrific. Enjoy the r&r.
