When 90 minutes of training seems like an easy day…

I guess I’m getting the hang of this stuff. Granted, it was an “easy” 90 minutes, but still, it’s been a tough week+ and I’m feeling pretty proud of myself right now. I recovered pretty well from yesterday’s ride. I was tired in the afternoon and evening and made sure to not stop eating or drinking until close to bedtime. I slept in a little this morning and woke up a little stiff and dehydrated, but generally ready to get back at it. I’d decided last night that I would wait until the evening to train today. I wanted to be able to sleep in a bit and then spend a nice day with Elizabeth and Charlie. Elizabeth usually takes a spin class at the gym late Sunday afternoons, so I figured I would time my training to coincide with that. I was pretty happy to be able to both get some extra shut-eye and feel like I had the day free. Normally, when I don’t work out first thing it hangs over my head and I’m antsy and iritiable until I acutally get out there and do it. I think I was better today. I think. (Guess I should ask Elizabeth!)

Anyway, at around 4:30, I set the Crono up on the trainer and rode for an easy half hour. After the ride, I changed shoes, put on a shirt, had a little water and went out for my run. I didn’t lollygag too much, but I also didn’t race through the “transition”. It was a beautiful night for a run – crystal clear, probably around 40, with very little wind. I went out in shorts and a long-sleeve shirt, and felt comfortable the whole time. I ran for about 25 minutes, then did eight strides, then ran home in a very slow, low intensity cool down.

It was a good, fairly busy weekend. I feel like we got a fair amount done, AND I got all my training in. The email from John today scared me a bit. This week I’ll be at my maximum training time for this base cycle – 15:45, which is 1:45 more than this week. The schedule looks tough, but not impossible. Mostly, it’s a similar week, just with longer run and bike sessions. He closed the email with “…get as much sleep as possible. You’ll need it.” Sweet.
