And now back in the swing of things

This morning was another strength test (deadlift and leg press) and another 30 minute continuous swim. Both went pretty well. I was a bit tired heading into the gym this morning – I was in bed long enough, but didn’t really sleep all that great. I tossed and turned until about 1AM and then was again from about 6 until I got out of bed at 7. I need to learn to get into bed earlier. The problem is that getting into bed earlier just doesn’t fit our schedule all that well. The best time of day for Elizabeth and I to spend together is after 8, and if I get into bed at 10, then it really cuts our time together short. I do need to try to find a middle ground though.

My deadlift isn’t really all that strong. I’ve only ever done it on a sporadic basis and never gone very heavy. I warmed up with a set of eight at 95 pounds and then went up to 135 for the main set. I could tell right away that 135 was going to be too heavy. So I dropped down to 115 and got in a pretty good set. Officially I did seven reps, but my form on the last one or two probably wasn’t very good. The leg press went better. There, I warmed up with eight at 140 (70 pounds on each side) and then did six at 360 (4×45 pound plates per side). I was pretty pleased to get six at that weight, and my form was pretty good.

After lifting, I went for my swim. I wasn’t feeling as good as I did on Monday, but did the swim without any problem and was only about 50-75 yards off my distance from Monday. I stopped after 1,700 yards, but I think it took me about 30:30. Again I counted strokes per length. Monday I was pretty consistently at about 20-21/length, today I was between 21-22/length. It doesn’t sounds like much of a difference when I write it now, but I could feel the difference while I was in the pool.
