Turkey Day

Last night at the spin class a woman told us about a 10K Turkey Trot in Montauk this morning. Today was a running day for both of us and doing a race would have been fun. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas. When I got up this morning, it was pouring rain, windy and bitter cold. I don’t have any problem with running in less-than-ideal conditions, but we just couldn’t see any reason to drive 45 minutes to run in those really-less-than-ideal conditions. So we spent the morning sitting around and relaxing and hoping that the rain would let up. It never really did – at times it slowed down a bit, but then it would start pouring again.

Finally, at around 2:30 it looked like it was getting a little better outside, so we took advantage of the break in the rain and got outside. I ran with Elizabeth to warm up and then did a mile or so at a faster pace. Then I did my strides and finished the run with a nice, even jog home. It was a good 45 minute run. I was a bit worried that the travel would catch up with me, but so far, so good.

Run – November 23
Time: 42 minutes
Distance: 5 miles
Average heart rate: 151
Course: House to beach
