Struggling to come back
Yesterday was supposed to be my first big day back from marathon recovery. Instead, I didn’t work out at all. I was scheduled to swim and strength train, but I absolutely could not get out of bed in the morning and Elizabeth and I had plans last night. Additionally, I didn’t really feel that great. It bummed me out to miss both workouts, but I guess it was the right move. I have to remember that I still have months and months before the season starts, let alone Lake Placid. Missing that workout won’t make a bit of difference.
Yesterday I also starting getting my first doubts about Placid. Thinking about how much work I’m going to have to do between now and then and wondering how I’m going to fit it in with everything else has me more than a little scared.
This morning I rode inside and did a new workout, one where I alternate legs (with the “off” leg on a chair). It was different and pretty fun, actually. I didn’t have that much trouble pedaling with just one leg, which is a good thing, I think.
This evening, after work and before Charlie’s obedience class, I went for a run – another new workout. The main part of the workout was strides and single-leg hops. I ran to the West Side, did the main sets and then ran back. 30 minutes. It felt good to get out there and run again. I’m not sure when I have my first long run, but I expect that when I’m in Germany next week, that’s what I’ll do, and even if not then, I’ll definitely do one over Thanksgiving in the Hamptons.
