Counting Down the Days

It’s RACEWEEK!

14 weeks ago about now I was in San Diego at my parents house re-hashing San Diego 100. I’d already signed up for Run Rabbit Run and was wondering if 15 weeks would be enough time for me to physically and mentally recover from a 100 mile race and then train for the next one. I’d never done more than one 100 in a year and now was hoping to run two within three and half months.

Thankfully, as it turned out, my recovery and my summer training went well and now I’m just five sleeps away from race morning. (The race starts at 8am on Friday morning; hopefully there will be live tracking at www.runrabbitrunsteamboat.com.)

And it’s been a good taper, too. I’ve been trying to focus on recovery and sleep with a little running mixed in here and there.  Tapering is always a shock to my system and this time was no exception, especially since it started with some long travel days and work meetings.  Between running less and sitting more, my hamstrings and hips went into mild rebellion at first, but a session with Dr. Tosh, a couple massages (my first ever Thai massage and then a few days later a hurts-so-good one with Scott), some good stretching and easy running has mostly worked all of that out.

Now I’ve got a couple more days of work, a few more easy runs, some clean, healthy food to eat, and a lot of packing to do before I head out to Steamboat.  But I made it this far and now I just have 100 miles to run!  ðŸ™‚

Also, last week, Billy posted the video he made chronicling our SoCal Triple Crown adventure on August 24. As usual, it’s a great video, check it out:

Yeah man – nothing left to do but run the damn thing. Stoked for ya…gonna be an awesome weekend in CO!

ps – curious to see if you ended up going to “the spa” today

I didn’t make it to the spa. By the time I got home, walking the dogs and napping on the couch won.

  2. Cool video. Crazy brother.
