Decisions, decisions
Saturday morning I ran a pretty fast (for me) 10k at the Santa Monica Venice Christmas Run. It’s a fun race – super well organized, a fast, well-marked course and great volunteer support. I can see why this race is a Los Angeles institution. It was the first non-triathlon road race that I’ve done since Boston in April 2009. I had a lot of fun, even if it reminded me how much 10k’s hurt – and I didn’t even try to kill myself out there. I’m fairly certain that it was a 10k PR, but that’s not really fair because I haven’t done an open 10k in four years!
As for what was going on in my left low-back/hip, that’s cleared up. In fact, it hasn’t bothered me since a week ago Friday night when the pain was almost debilitating. I’ve been stretching my hips a lot and not running long, so maybe that helped. BUT, now I have something going on on my right hip. This time it’s truly the hip. Right on the pointy-est part of the hip bone. It was hurting a little little bit before Saturday’s 10k, flared up during the race and has been pretty sharp pain since. I’ve done a little stretching, but that actually hurts so I’m laying off. I haven’t run since and I definitely won’t be running until it clears up.
This is getting me to seriously question my motivation as well as my spring and summer training and racing plans. I keep telling myself not to rush back into things, yet it seems like that’s exactly what I’ve done. And with every set-back I feel my motivation slipping and slipping. So what now? It’s just mid-December, but March and even May are gonna come quick. Decisions, decisions.*
And yesterday, we:
Got to see this:
There is still a little hope for the Chargers season. A little… GO CHARGERS!
Oh yeah. I started radiation this morning. So far, so good. The appointment itself took about five minutes. It took me longer than that to walk from the parking lot to the waiting room. Sweet. The nurses and techs are really nice.
*What a friggin’ complainer.
I bet your lack of motivation ends up turning into some ridiculous impressive performance by the end of the summer
I’ve started really enjoying the crossfit style strength training I’ve been doing. It’s been a really good distraction from the running and it’s been nice to actually develop some strength for a change.
Find something new or different to keep you occupied for a while. You’ll be back before you know it.
It will all fall into place…but I think the key is not to push it
