Monthly Summary – July 2011
Here’s July:
Swim: 0 meters
Cycling (outdoors): 255.6 miles
Cycling (indoors): 9:19 (hours)
Run: 49.8 miles
Strength Training/Yoga: 4 sessions
Approximate monthly total training time: 44.5 hours
This was the third month out of the the last 10 that was a “get back into training month”. I’m a little tired of it. 🙂
That being said, July was a good month. Coming off breaking my collarbone on June 11 and surgery to fix it on June 21, I did some decent training in July and feel like I put myself in a position to have a strong August in preparation for SOS. My bike fitness is coming along well. The running definitely isn’t “there” just yet, but I’m working on it. I haven’t been in the pool since June 10, but hopefully swim form and fitness will come back quick.
I spent the first two weeks in the basement gym of our building on the trainer and treadmill glued to the Tour de France.
The third week (plus a few days) was spent on Maui, which meant a bunch of this:
and this:
and a ride to the summit of Haleakala, which is pretty much the opposite of being on a trainer in the basement.
During this last week of the month, I’ve been getting back into the swing of things at home and work.
Yesterday was a fun ride with the Pablove crew. I haven’t mentioned it here yet, but this summer, Pablove and Team Pablove are working on a special project. At the beginning of the summer, Pablove was selected to work with The People’s Fleet. Sponsored by Ford Motor Company, The People’s Fleet gave four local non-profits a 2012 Ford Focus and a team of filmmakers and sent them out to spread their message. Each organization has a bunch of publicity and social-media-driven goals to complete over the summer, and, assuming they each complete their project by September 16, they’ll get a $5,000 grant from Ford. Pablove and Team Pablove’s goal is to recruit 46* new members for the team. Please go to the Pablove People’s Fleet page and help us meet our goals – it’s easy stuff, watch a video (like the one below), RSVP to an event, spread the word through Facebook, etc.
In connection with the project, yesterday, a group of 11 of us went out and rode around Silver Lake, Griffith Park and Burbank with the camera crew. It was a fun, easy ride (except for a few miles on the LA River bike path where everyone really picked up the pace for a bit!). Here are some pictures from the morning:

Onward!
* 46 = the number of families that are told EVERY DAY that their child has been diagnosed with cancer!
Solid “coming back month”, out of interest why is Bike outside miles and inside time?
