Monthly Summary – June 2012
Here’s June 2012:
First was the 35.9 mile/10,023 feet of elevation gain Haleakala ascent.
Then I did the 17.6 mile/4,642 feet of elevation gain run to the Mauna Kea summit at 13,796 feet.
Our trip was nice and relaxing. We had great weather and definitely took advantage of our time away from the office. Here’s a picture from an afternoon we spent at Waipi’o Valley. We hiked up and down the very steep road to the black sand beach and took in the views of some crazy waterfalls.
We tried stand-up paddleboarding (Elizabeth rocked it, I sucked); we dove on the Big Island and saw tons of fish, eels, octopi and beautiful coral; we spent a lot of time on the beach reading and relaxing and ate lots of great food.
It was a great trip and except to see the pups, I wonder if either of us would have come home!
I also did some great running during the first 19 days of June before we left for Hawaii. I got into a really good rhythm in late May/early June – running in the Santa Monicas on Tuesday, Thursday (Coyote run) and Sunday (long run), Griffith Park on Saturday and Runyon on Monday and/or Wednesday.
I did a little swimming (including a couple Aqua-X workouts) and one yoga class, but zero saddle time. I didn’t expect to spend any time on the bike, but wouldn’t mind getting out there now and then.
I’m looking forward to continuing the training into July while I get ready for my first ultra of 2012, White River 50, on July 28.
Onward!
Take care of bidness at White River, White Boy.
Solid month. Epic runs.
josh — sounds like you are on solid track. jealous of your hawaii time. hope to make it there soon…never been!
