Monthly Summary – March 2012
I’d been building up to March 18 for a few months. (I probably hadn’t been “building up” to it for long enough, but that’s a story for a race report that I still haven’t written!) Then, it came and went really quickly. Any other training I did during March is something of a blur. One swim. Really? A little bit of time on the bike. Two-plus weeks of taper before the marathon and a couple weeks of recovery after it. But that’s what happens to a month when I run a marathon in the middle of it. By the way, can you find me in the above picture? Look closely! Something I always wear for races should help you find me.
I promise (mostly to myself) that I’ll get a race report for the marathon written soon. Pretty much immediately after the race, my motivation to do anything was in the crapper. I couldn’t bother to eat well or get up in the morning like I usually do. I didn’t want to write or read. I knew I should write my race report, but couldn’t bring myself to sit down and do it. At one point last week, I thought hard about writing a blog post about how much I was struggling to motivate. But then, I couldn’t even motivate to write about it not being able to motivate… I’m sure I was suffering from some post-race blues and more than a little exhaustion. Add in being crazy busy at work and a nice chunk of life stress and I was not a happy Josh. My poor cycling friends had to suffer through my bad attitude last Saturday on our ride. I definitely should have just stayed home and spared them!
I turned a corner this week. I got out for two good trail runs, two yoga sessions and a bike ride this morning with Rom. I slept better and ate better. April’s gonna be a good month!
Here’s March:
Swim: 1,200 meters
Cycling (outdoors): 91.9 miles
Cycling (indoors): 1:25 (hours)
Run: 129.6 miles
Strength Training/Yoga: 5 sessions
Approximate monthly total training/racing time: 34.75 hours
The mental has to be there before anything happens with the physical. Good lesson to keep on mind, thank you for the reminder. Glad to hear you’re back on a roll!
