Monthly Summary – March 2013

(photo: Gary Wang)

March was really all about one thing – the Coyote Backbone Trail Ultra.   I finished the “race” almost exactly 12 hours and I’m hurting pretty badly right now.  Calves, quads, back, feet, shoulders, stomach and head.  I’m not sure what isn’t hurting!  The above picture was around mile 17 of the race – when I was still feeling pretty good.  I finished somewhere around 15:17 and have no idea what overall place that was.  Top 10?  Top 15?  It didn’t hit me until about the time the race was starting, but except for AC100 and Bear 100, this was the longest, hardest run I’d ever done.  And it felt that way!  I’ll work on a race report soon.

I had a fair number of good runs in March – I got out to the San Bernadino’s a couple times for long runs and had a fun day running around the LA Marathon course with Tyler.  Speaking at the Team Pablove pre-marathon dinner was nerve-wracking and very rewarding.

Once again, no cycling.  I’m not upset about that.  But I am a little bummed that I barely did any strength training or yoga.  I’ll blame travel and a busy work schedule, but I need to be better about that in the coming months.

Here’s March:

Swim: 16,700 meters
Cycling (outdoors): 0.0 miles
Cycling (indoors): 0:00 (hours)
Run: 304.5 miles
Total Run Elevation Gain: 53,266 feet
Strength Training/Yoga: 1 sessions
Approximate monthly total training/racing time: 60.5 hours
