Monthly Summary – September 2013
September was Run Rabbit Run. Taper, Race, Recovery. I’m really psyched with how the race went. It wasn’t as fast as I’d maybe hoped, but on that course, at altitude, I’ll definitely take 25:32:13. Here’s my race report.
Billy came to Colorado, crewed me all day, paced me through the night and then made this kick-ass video of my race:
With that, I’m done with ultras for the year. There’s a chance I’ll do one or two more shorter races this fall, but I don’t feel any pressure whatsoever to do any races or to make any decisions at this point.
Here’s September:
Swim: 6,300 meters
Cycling (outdoors): 42.4 miles
Cycling (indoors): 0 (hours)
Run: 162.6 miles
Total Run Elevation Gain: 27,704 feet
Strength Training/Yoga: 4 sessions
Approximate monthly total training/racing time: 44.75 hours
Weight: ??
Before the race, I promised myself that I would start my recovery by not running a single step for two weeks. Those two weeks were up on Saturday and I went for a really easy run. I also ran this morning. Both runs felt pretty good and for the next two weeks, I’m going to ease back into running. During this recovery, I’m trying to do a little bit of everything: some swimming, some cycling, some hiking, some running, some strength training and some yoga. My first swim was horrific, but the others felt pretty good. Same with my first visit back to yoga; I seriously thought I was going to pass out half-way through the class. I rode both of the last two Sundays – easy, short rides – and really enjoyed myself. For the near future, while I’m not too worried about getting big miles on my feet, I’m going to try to do a weekly ride.
you are my badass friend, josh. thrilled for ya!! rest that body!!
