The final week
One thing is for sure. With one week to go until Badwater, I’m feeling much much better than I was with two weeks to go!
The first week of July was not the best part of my training (in fact it pretty much sucked). Right about the time I started to wind down my training, some strain in my psoas/abdomen/hips started bothering me and then I got sick for the first time in forever. As a result, I didn’t run very much and barely ate. And the runs I did do were pretty miserable and I cut a bunch of them very short and even then just struggled through the shortened distance.
But the good news is that last week was much better. I’ve still got something going on in my abs/core but I’ve been able to run and I ate like a champ all week.
I feel like most of what I need to get done is already in place. Training-wise, everything is done. I’m taking today off (to let yesterday’s massage sink in) but I’ll run a little this week and hit the sauna a few times; hopefully I’ll do some good stretching and yoga and maybe get to the pool. As for race plans and logistics and shopping, nearly everything is done. I’ve even started getting all my gear together in a big mostly disorganized pile in our guest room.
I’m hoping that by Thursday, that pile will look much more organized.
I’m really excited about my crew. I have a great group who I trust to do everything they can to help me do my best. And I think we’ll have a fun time together. Tonight, I’m meeting with most of them to go over some basics. More on my crew to come later in the week.
As a reminder, I’m still raising money for CAF. You can click here to donate directly on my fundraising page or, if you’re buying Tailwind, just add #GoJoshGo to the comments section of the shopping cart during checkout and they’ll donate 5% of the purchase to CAF on my behalf.
This time next Monday, I’ll be about two hours into the race somewhere on the road up to Horseshoe Meadows.
