Tomorrow!

Here is my plan for tomorrow:

Let’s hope this all works. The first bit is easy; as you’ll see it gets progressively harder!

Early wake up call and roll out to Brentwood to drop off my car and meet up with friends. Arrive at stadium before 6AM. Relax, hit the head, find some friends, line up and take off!

My first “assignment” is to meet up with a friend around 16-18. She’s trying to run sub-3:50. I’m hoping to be ahead of her by at least a few minutes at that point, but not too long because I need to stay as fresh as possible. I’ll run with her until about 23, when she’ll be all set and cruise into a Boston qualifying time. When I drop her off, I’m going to double-back along the course in order to meet up with friend #2, who’s hoping to run a sub-5:00 PR. I’d like to meet up with her around mile 19 or 20. Then, I’ll run to the finish with her! If it all works, it’ll be about 32 miles in 5 hours. My “longest” marathon ever!

The biggest issues with the plan are whether or not I’ll actually be able to run 32 miles and whether I’ll be able to find my friends in the sea of 25,000 people (that is one reason I’ll be carrying my blackberry). I’m confident that both will work out, so there!

And this is what I’ll be wearing:

My new fluorescent yellow Coyotes t-shirt (which should make it easier for people to find me), my favorite CAF hat and hopefully a big smile! I also think I’ll be wearing a hydration pack, my sunglasses and my Brooks Defyance 3’s.

Hope to see and hear some of you out there!

Best wishes for fast races to my fellow LA-Marathoners and anyone else racing tomorrow (D10 – that’s you!).

Good luck buddy – see ya out there!

  2. It’s suppose to be a gorgeous day tomorrow. Traffic is gonna be bad in SM, so locking our bikes at the pier instead and taking the shuttle in. Good luck!
