Back home

Our Thanksgiving holiday finally has come to an end. We had a great weekend out at the beach. As usual, we did a whole lot of nothing – eating, reading, watching movies, walking around, working out (this is always our focus!), a walk on the beach, lots of time playing with the dogs. It was really fantastic, and I definitely feel like I was away. I guess I have been away – I left for Germany more than a week ago. I certainly am not ready to go back to the office – this week could be terrible. Coming back from the holiday would have been bad enough, but the fact that I was out for the first three days last week as well is going to kill me. Remember: remain calm.

This morning I was up pretty early and went to the Y for a long swim. It felt great. A one point there were only two of us in the pool and the other guy was a very good swimmer. From looks alone, you wouldn’t guess that he was such a good swimmer, but he was swimming considerably faster than me, just cruising. Some swimmers I watch just have that motion in the water that screams efficiency – they don’t really look like they’re trying, but they’re flying down the lane. When I see that it solidifies for me that I need to get some lessons and work on my technique. There’s no question that I have the endurance and the strength to do the distances, but I’m sure that with better form and motion, I can go faster and with less effort. After swimming I quickly lifted and got home to a delicious bagel breakfast.

Swim – November 26
