Better yet?

I did get sleep last night. Still not enough to make up for how I’ve been feeling and it was still quite a struggle to get out of bed this morning, but I did it. And I had a reasonably good swim. It was a little harder than it should have been (and on a couple sets where I was supposed to take a 10 second rest, I probably took more like 20, but that’s not a serious crime) and, again, I’m glad I did it. I even found myself working a bit too hard. My goal was moderate effort and I think I was working a bit harder than moderate. I tried slowing down, but then I just kept getting into a rhythm and found myself going faster again. Not “fast” mind you, but “fastER” in a relative sense! My swim needs work. I need to work on efficiency and form and stroke count per lap.

I tried testing my resting heart rate when I got up this morning, but I didn’t check it until I was already up and moving a little bit. And I only did it with my thumb on my neck, instead of hooking up my monitor. Based on some rough guesses, it was probably around 59 bpm, which I think is a little high. The problem is, I’m not really sure what that means. From what I’ve read, an elevated resting heartrate can be a sign of exhaustion or overwork or stress, but I guess I don’t really know when I need to worry about it or when I’m better off not exercising. As I’ve mentioned in here many times, I’m not very good at holding back. This is a research project for this weekend.

This evening I went back to the gym and lifted. The gym was pretty packed, so I had to jump around between floors and do a little improvising, but I did most of my scheduled strength training.
