Sore in Strange Places
My body’s feeling pretty weird today. First, I’m horribly dehydrated. I obviously didn’t drink enough fluids yesterday after the run. I’m also guessing that the couple beers I had when I went out last night aren’t helping any, but two beers wouldn’t normally have this kind of effect. Lesson learned. No, this was a lesson…

I had an amazing run today. It was a beautiful morning and I found trails just a subway ride away. But before I get into that, I want to mention something I’ve been thinking about recently and recommend another movie (or 2) and book. I don’t consider myself much of a social activist. Elizabeth and…

Running, running, running
Yesterday was a big running day. I ran about 17.5 miles in the morning and went back out in the evening for another ten. Both runs went really well. For the morning run, I went up to Central Park. The New York Road Runners had a half marathon in the Park yesterday morning, so I…

Half a Soulja
This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for some time now. In 2005 and 2006, I raced in the New York City Triathlon. This year the race fell on the same day as Ironman Lake Placid, so I obviously wasn’t able to race. It’s a great race through my current hometown, which means…

All in all, a good race. I finished about 45 seconds slower than last year’s time. While I know that my fitness is better this year than last year, as I expected, I struggled to find that extra/”fast” gear. For example, I was able to ride at 20mph, but couldn’t get to 21, let alone…

Tomorrow morning, actually about 12 hours from now, Elizabeth and I will race the Mighty Hamptons Triathlon. It’s an Olympic-distance race that we both did last year as well. It was a really great race last year – well-organized, beautiful location on the beach in Sag Harbor, a really nice (and mostly flat) course, and…

Saturday night was my annual Boys’ Weekend/Fantasy Football Draft. Part of me wishes that I had some pictures to put up here as evidence that I still know how to have fun, but I’m also glad that no pictures from that night of “fun” actually exist. (Not that anything that crazy went on, but I…

Boston Marathon – Registered!
First things first. Registration for the 2008 Boston Marathon opened earlier this week and I got right to it. My goal at the New York Marathon last year was to run a sub-3:10:59 and qualify for Boston. I missed that goal by 2:09, but, after a careful reading of the qualification rules, I realized that…

It’s amazing how quickly things can change. Just a week ago I was pretty seriously worried about the rest of my season. When the pain hit my hip, I really figured I was screwed. Today I’m optimistic. Even after running every day for six straight days, I’m feeling much better than I was before I…
