He keeps going

I slept much much better last night than Sunday night. I still didn’t fall asleep as quickly as I would have liked and didn’t sleep solidly through the night, but I feel like I got a pretty good night’s sleep, which I guess is enough.

I woke up pretty easily when the alarm went off. I had a little to eat and drink, set up my bike on the trainer and got working. All that TV that I had Tivo’d over the weekend was finally put to good use. I watched a little Sportscenter, but got pretty bored, so I switched over to the VH1 Jumpstart that I’d recorded last Friday. I was a great way to spin, but thankfully, I wasn’t watching it live. While watching this morning, I figured out that they have about as much commercial time as they do videos. In the first half hour of the show, I saw just five videos – if the videos are approximately three minutes each, that’s 15 minutes of commercials and 15 of videos. Thank god for Tivo! They play the same videos multiple times over the course of the show, but I like (or at least like riding to) a bunch of the pop songs that are out right now. It definitely helps make the time go faster.

This evening, after work, I went for a quick half hour run around Washington Square Park. It’s boring, but I figured that by the time I got to the West Side, it would nearly be time to turn around. And, as long as I only run at Washington Square every so often, it’s not that bad. The loop is a half-mile, which is OK for a shorter run. There are people to look at and I don’t have to worry about cars, so it’s not terrible. It is a really beautiful night. We’ve been so lucky this winter (knock on wood) – first it was really mild (warm, even), and now even when it’s cold, there haven’t been that many days when it’s even close to unbearable. And, we’re already almost in February. I guess I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that winter isn’t just getting started!

I’m finalizing all the new stuff on my blog and getting ready to send out a big email to family and friends about my fund-raising efforts. I’m going to raise money for Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). It’s a great cause and right now it’s about as close to my heart and mind as any charity is going to be. I spoke to a woman there today (Bambi) and she seemed really nice and it will be super easy to get started. I have to figure out a good goal, without underestimating what I can raise. I figure that in the next few days/week I’ll set up on the CAF system and then get an email out to everyone. At that point, I imagine I’ll start getting some visitors to the blog. I need to have it all set up and ready by then. My new tables with weekly/monthly/annual totals are just about ready. My countdown clock isn’t working, but I’ll play with that more tomorrow. Once that email goes out, there’s really no going back… (not that I’m not already in so deep anyway!)
