Headed home…

They say that all good things must come to an end. I’m trying hard to keep that in mind as our California vacation does just that. We came down to San Diego on Wednesday and have spent the last four days doing what we do best while on vacation… not doing much of anything! (The above photo is today’s sunset from my parent’s back porch.)

I’ve managed to do all of my scheduled training, which is great, especially since I’ve also continued eating everything in sight. I don’t have very good self-control under the best circumstances and having access to a kitchen full of delicious snacks certainly isn’t the best of circumstances. But it sure has been delicious!

We’ve had some really nice family time, including an afternoon and evening with my grandparents, uncle, aunt and cousins. Mom, Dad, Charlie and I took a nice hike up Cowles Mountain on Thursday morning. It was a beautiful morning – sunny and not-too-warm. The entire hike is about one and a half miles each way and it’s not especially easy. Charlie was such a trooper, storming up the hill and jumping up steps taller than he is. From the top, you get a great view for miles around.

Yesterday I had a great swim in probably my favorite pool ever. My folks’ YMCA has a 10 lane, 25 yard, outdoor pool. It’s heated but kept comfortably cool and isn’t overly chlorinated. I had a relatively short swim scheduled and spent most of the workout thinking of ways to continue swimming laps all morning!

Today Aaron, Loren, Elizabeth and I took Charlie to Dog Beach. He enjoyed sniffing around the seaweed and checking out some of the other dogs. And we enjoyed running around the sand with him.

We’re flying home tomorrow afternoon.

I guess it will be nice to get back home…
