Monthly Summary – April

Here’s April:

Swim: 24,050 yards
Cycling (outdoors): 306.3 miles
Cycling (indoors): 14:25 (hours)
Run: 83.0 miles
Strength Training: 2:53 hours

Approximate monthly total training time: 54:00 (hours)

Weight: 167.5 pounds (2.5 pounds down from last month – not bad considering the week I’m coming off)

Another strong month. Again, I didn’t have any forced time off and nailed my training goals each week. My swim volume was pretty far down compared to last month, but I traded time in the pool for time on the bike, and it paid off this weekend.

On my day off, I have some more reflections on this weekend’s rides. Between Saturday at 10AM and Sunday at 1PM, I rode 186.1 miles and spent a total of 10 hours on the bike (and that was after a full week of training, including 4.25 hours on the trainer). Both rides were exponentially easier than when I struggled on that same course in February. Granted, it was colder and windier on that day, but on Saturday I crushed it (comparatively speaking, that is) and I rode well on Sunday too, despite the fact that I wasn’t anything approaching “fresh” and there were some nice winds. Clearly, my fitness is at a higher level, I’ve become a better cyclist and also, importantly, I’ve learned a thing or two about “fueling” my body so it can handle these distances. Placid is still 12 weeks away (is that it?), and a lot can happen between now and then, but right now, I’m riding feeling pretty confident and very pleased with how far I’ve come.

Keep an eye on the “Future Race Schedule” table in the next couple days for some new additions to my race schedule.

Awesome month. I come back to your blog after a few days away and you’ve rocked a 112 and a 74 on consecutive days! Absolutely bonkers! Are you going to make it up to LP for the bloggers recon mission in mid-June?
