April was a good month. It was a great month compared to March, but even on its own, life was pretty happy during April. We moved into our new place here in LA, I started to feel a little settled, Charlie recovered from the attack and I’m feeling pretty good physically and psychologically. The last few weeks of training for Boston went well as did my quick recovery and the first 10 days training for whatever’s next (see yesterday’s post for more on that…).

Obviously, Boston was the highlight of the month. The picture above is John and I enjoying a beer after the race. I’m pleased with how the race went, and, just as important, with how my recovery has gone so far. I ran today for the first time since the race. I can’t lie and say it felt great, but I wasn’t in pain, my body just didn’t really want to run. I’m guessing that yesterday’s ride and this morning’s long swim probably had something to do with that. In April, I swam nearly twice as much as any other month this year and it feels good. It especially feels good to swim in the 50 meter outdoor pool.

I didn’t do any formal strength training this month. After my Equinox membership expired, I just haven’t motivated to find a new gym. I like strength training and I know its benefits, but I’m not sure I like it enough to drive to a gym and spend that time inside. I also like not spending the money on a gym membership. I’ve been making a strong effort to do push-ups and core-work a few times a week; if I could add in some pull-ups and a little leg strengthening work, I’d be fine. I know I can make that happen.

Now it’s on to May.

I sound like an infomercial but for easy, cheap pullups, Iron Gym is incredible. I bought it four months ago and it is amazing.

Congratulations on Boston – hopefully I’ll make it in 2010.
