Monthly Summary – December
Here’s December:
Swim: 20,000 yards
Cycling (outdoors): 0 miles
Cycling (indoors): 8:07 (hours)
Run: 51.55 miles
Strength Training/Yoga: 9 sessions
Approximate monthly total training/racing time: 28.5 hours
Weight: 170 pounds. A slight increase from last month. The increase could be due to any number of factors, including the amount of food I ate during our vacation. More optimistically thinking, it could be related to an increase in muscle mass due to the weight training and swimming that I’ve been doing recently. Either way, it’s a fine weight for me to be at this point of the year.
I’m pleased with December’s training. It was a relatively low volume training month – I trained just an hour more than I did in November, but it was much more well balanced in terms of the three triathlon disciplines plus strength training. For the second straight month, I didn’t get outside on the bike a single time, but hopefully I’ll do some outside rides in January. Cycling in the cold didn’t really bother me that much last winter, but it hasn’t been worth going out for the relatively short rides I’ve been doing. As my scheduled rides get longer, I’ll definitely need to get outside.
The highlight of the month was our trip west. The vacation itself was a ton of fun; it’s always great to spend time with our families. The weather was really great (I was especially upset this morning when I had to get myself and Charlie all bundled up just to take him for a short walk). And, I did all of my training – I didn’t ride at all, but I did plenty of running and swimming, including that swim in the outdoor pool at the Mission Valley Y which will probably make every other pool I swim in a disappointment.
My back is still bothering me a little – I stretched while we were in California, but probably not as often as I should have. It would be nice to start the new year without any aches or pains, but that doesn’t seem likely. And as long as I think it’s under control (which I do), I’ll try not to think about it too much.
I’ll post my annual summary and some reflections on 2007 in the coming days.
Happy New Year and thanks for reading!
