My message to friends and family

I sent the below in an email to a bunch of friends and family last night. I got a ton of great emails, all with encouraging words. Thanks all!

OK. I’ll make a deal with you: If you promise to read this ENTIRE email, I won’t send another one until after the race. I’m doing this for YOU, actually. It’s a little long, but there’s some pretty important information in here and I don’t want you to miss it. Deal?

First, thanks to you, I’ve now raised over $11,000 for Challenged Athletes Foundation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. If you haven’t donated and are still interested in doing so, rest assured that there is no deadline. (My personal fundraising site is http://raceforareason.kintera.org/joshspector.) I’ve learned a lot about CAF and seen some pretty incredible challenged athletes in action over the course of the last year. I feel strongly that this is a great cause and am going to find ways to continue to work with them after this race.

Second, in case you forgot, the race is this Sunday. Yes, that’s three days away. It starts at 7AM and I’ll be out there until… well, for a l-o-n-g time! My bib number is 607. If you’re interested (or just bored in front of the computer), you should be able to follow the race at http://www.ironman.com/ironmanlive (or you can just go to http://www.ironman.com and find the link from there).

Third, I’ve still been blogging about all this nonsense. Just in case it’s not the top bookmark in your “favorites”, the blog is http://www.j-tris.blogspot.com /. It’s got all my training data, race reports, pictures and a whole lot of stuff that’s probably only interesting to me. I’ll be sure to post my results as soon as
possible after the race.

Finally, as I’ve mentioned before, I could not have possibly made it this far alone. I owe tons of thanks to so many people for their advice, support, friendship and love. You are the best support team a guy could ever wish for. Most of all, though, I owe it to my dear wife. She’s the one who has to live with me every day and she’s been an absolute champ at putting up with my sh*t. Isn’t she just the very best.

See you all on the other side! js
