NO MORE DESSERT!

In other news, it’s time for a change in diet. Since finishing Ironman Canada 17 days ago, I have really been eating like sh*t. I’ve been stuffing myself silly and indulging my sweet-tooth without any restraint.

I’ll agree that after finishing the Ironman I deserved to let go a little bit and replenish the lost calories and sugar, but I took it a little far. Eating Yogurt Land frozen yogurt just about every day for the first week was OK. And eating an entire tub of Trader Joe’s Ginger Cats (oh my god those things are so friggin’ good) wasn’t that bad. But did I really need to eat dessert after breakfast the other day? And did I really need to go back for seconds – or thirds! – on dessert at each wedding event (family dinner, rehearsal dinner and wedding) last weekend?

So, on Monday morning I started a two week (at least) hiatus from anything “sweet”. I’m not going to go crazy and try to eliminate all processed sugar from my diet because that’s not realistic, but I am cutting out anything that seems like “dessert”. Right now, other than some of Elizabeth’s diet chocolate popsicles, which I won’t touch anyway, there’s really nothing in the house to tempt me. I’m going to keep it that way. If I want a “treat”, I’ll stick to a piece of fruit or a frozen banana with some peanut butter or a handful of Kashi Go Lean.

To be clear, it’s not that I’m worried about the calories and I agree that some sweets – in moderation – is fine. I just went too far and now I need to clean out my system a little and prove, again, that I can show a little restraint before I treat myself again. Because that’s what sugary dessert should be – a treat – not a regular part of the diet.
