Oh no!
Did I ever do something that people are going to consider stupid . Not “stupid” as in “mistake”; “stupid” as in “mutha-f-ing crazy“.
There’s this race called the “Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run”. It’s one of the most famous ultramarathons in the world. It runs along the Western States Trail in Northern California in June each year. It’s the only ultra that I’ve seen that is popular enough to have a lottery. This is the course:

Well, the lottery for the 2008 race is starting in an hour or so. No, I did not sign up for the 2008 lottery. Trying to do this in 2008 would be crazy. There’s no way to do both Western States and Lake Placid, and I want to do Lake Placid. BUT… there is a raffle held in connection with the lottery and for a few bucks, you can get chance to win an automatic, free entry into the 2009 race. SO… a few weeks ago (yes, before I’d even completed the JFK 50 – that might be the stupid part), I sent in a check for some raffle tickets. I mean, what’s the harm? The odds of winning the raffle are pretty low and anyway, 2009 is long way off. I’m just keeping my options open…
