Raising Money for The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF)
Dear Friends and Family,
In 2007, in anticipation of my first Ironman triathlon, family and friends helped me raise over $13,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). At the time, racing an Ironman was a nearly unfathomable challenge and completing that race was far and away the biggest athletic accomplishment of my life. Raising money for CAF helped me keep things in perspective and was a constant reminder that no matter how hard a training day was for me, there were many many athletes facing obstacles I couldn’t even begin to comprehend.
Flash forward 7 years. Since that first Ironman I’ve participated in many challenging events, but I expect the one I have coming next will be tougher than any of those. On Monday, July 21, I’ll be participating in Badwater 135, affectionately known as the “world’s toughest footrace”. This year the race starts in Lone Pine, CA and ends 135 miles later at the top of the Mt. Whitney Portal Road. You can read more about the race at my website www.spectorjosh.com and at www.badwater.com.
With Badwater on my mind, I’ve decided to raise money for CAF once again. CAF is an inspiring 501c3 non-profit foundation that gives hope to thousands of individuals with physical disabilities around the world by providing grants for adaptive sports equipment (like handcycles, basketball wheelchairs and prosthetic legs), money for competition and training expenses and general mentoring and support.
Just like me, these challenged athletes want to participate in athletics and feel the rush of competition. They have more then enough ambition, desire and skill. But many lack the support and funding to get the resources they need to succeed. And that is where you and I come in.
With our help, CAF can support these inspiring challenged athletes. Please partner with me by making a donation on my secure personal fundraising webpage at: http://www.challengedathletes.org/adventurecorps2014/spectorjosh.
Join me in making dreams come true for challenged athletes. Give the gift of sports and help get challenged athletes off the sidelines – and into the game.
As a fun side note, in January I did an ultramarathon in Brazil called the Brazil 135. I documented the race with a GoPro camera and BuzzFeed took my footage and turned it into an awesome video. In case you haven’t already seen the video, please click here to watch it: http://www.buzzfeed.com/henrygoldman/meet-the-guy-who-ran-135-miles-without-stopping-and-filmed-t
Thank you for your support,
Josh
