Recovery Weekend – Recovered

Whatever I was feeling at the end of last week was pretty much cured by an easy, relaxing, low-volume-training weekend. I feel much better this evening than I did 48 hours ago. I’m guessing that’s what two days of not being at the office will do! I do feel much more refreshed and ready to tackle the next three weeks, during which I’m sure I’ll be right back to busting my ass.

Yestesrday was a nearly-35 mile ride, done as a long warm-up and cool-down on either side of a 30 minute time trial in Central Park. The goal was to go all-out for a half hour. I pretty much did that, though it is hard to ride like that in Central Park on a Saturday – even a cold one like yesterday. There are parts of the loop that you can really fly, but other sections, especially the lower loop between West 72nd and East 72nd, where the horse carriages, pedicabs and tourists combine to make the riding treacherous. The hills at the North end of the Park interrupt that race-pace as well. All those excuses aside, though, I’m still pleased with my results: 10.7 miles in the half hour (average speed 21.4mph, duh).

After a morning run today (45 minutes mostly in zone 1), I spent the day bumming around. Elizabeth had a work event, so I went to Jackrabbit to talk to Chris and took the train out to R&A in Brooklyn to look at race wheels. I didn’t make the purchase today, but probably will this week.

I almost wrote that I wish there was more to report, but really I’m happy there’s not!
