Summer Traditions

Charlie and I got our summer/race-ready haircuts this week. Now we’re really ready for the summertime heat.
I think I did my last semi-long bike ride this morning in Central Park. It was a good ride, despite the fact that the park is pretty much a sh*t-show on weekend mornings in the summer, even at 8AM. Between the cyclists, runners, rollerbladers, walkers, dogs, kids, Parks trucks and cops, it’s like an obstacle course in there. And it wasn’t helped by the fact that they were setting up for a “free” Bon Jovi concert in the Park this evening and there was extra traffic and some lanes were blocked off. It was an absolutely beautiful morning though! And my ride was over and done with before 9:30.
I haven’t been feeling all that hot the last few days. I started feeling it Thursday morning during my run – I felt a little sluggish and really dehydrated. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring any water on that run – it was morning and I was only going out for 45 minutes, so I don’t normally bring water. Thursday was the worst of it, but I’m generally just “off” – my stomach’s upset, I have a headache and a little upper body ache. I also feel really dehydrated, despite drinking lots of water, taking my NUUN and trying other sports-type drinks. I guess they’re flu-like symptoms, but not nearly as bad as a flu. It didn’t stop me from swimming yesterday morning or riding today! I’ve gotten a few good nights’ sleep and am feeling better today. I’m assuming it will pass in the next day or so. I certainly hope so. Better this weekend than next, right?!
