Travel day/Spin class

This morning, I got up at 5:30AM Frankfurt time (11:30PM NY time) in order to catch my flight to London and then the connection to JFK. I didn’t sleep on the two hour flight from Frankfurt to London, but once I got settled on the flight to JFK and had some lunch, I slept pretty soundly for two or three hours. The flights were easy and uneventful – I slept, read, ate, watched a little bit of a couple movies and generally just zoned out. I got to JFK at around 1:15, got my bag, jumped into the car and was at the beach by 3:30, I think.

There’s a spinning studio out here that Elizabeth really loves and she had signed herself up for a 6PM class, so I decided to join her. I don’t really love spinning – even though the position and movement is generally the same, the motion and resistance and muscle involvement feels really different than cycling, even compared to riding on the trainer. And then there’s the whole “being inside” thing that I’m not used to. The loud music, instead of motivating me, was a bit overwhelming and putting resistance on the spin bike to create “hills” doesn’t really feel like hills. Also, I’m so used to riding on my aerobars that riding upright didn’t feel right. All that being said, it was nice to stretch the legs, get my heart rate up and sweat out all the travel. And even if it’s not the cycling workout I’m used to, it was still definitely a workout and my heart was racing. And it was fun to work out with Elizabeth.

At the class someone told us about a 10K Turkey Trot tomorrow morning in Montauk. Tomorrow is a running day, so the race works out well. It’s probably going to be cold and rainy, which should be interesting.

Bike/spin class – November 22
