Brazil 135 – Send-off Party and Live Tracking

I can’t believe the race is less than a week away now. Aaron and I fly down to São Paulo tomorrow evening. I’m equal parts nervous and excited. Well actually, right now, I’m much more nervous than excited. But my training is done and nearly all of the planning is done. Pretty much all I have left to do is pack and travel. And then run. Far.

The race starts Friday Jan 17 at 8am local time (6 hours ahead of PST). This may be my last post until after I’m back home.  Look for updates and photos on Facebook and Twitter.

Live Tracking:

There is live tracking during the race. All runners will be wearing a GPS transponder and hopefully that will mean that people will be able to see exactly where I am at all times during the race. I can’t make any promises that it will work, but the RD is very proud of the system and it should work.

I’m in the “solo” division (because I’m not a wuss*)
My bib number is 1069

I’ll be running all day Friday, all day Saturday and possibly Sunday as well, so you’ll have plenty of time to see how I’m doing.

The system seems pretty intuitive and easy to use. You can even go there now and play with a couple fake runners currently on the course. You can see data in table format or on a map.

Birthday/Send-off Party:

Yesterday, Elizabeth threw me an awesome birthday and send-off party at Golden Road Brew Pub. She and I spent pretty much the whole day there and tons of friends came by for a beer, food or to play some games. Elizabeth surprised me by decorating the table with all kinds of fun Brazil and USA flags, stickers, medals, noise makers, sunglasses and other goodies.  Here are a few pictures from the day:

Obrigado to everyone for all the support and love. I’m really fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in these types of events. And I’m grateful for the friends and family (especially my very patient wife) who put up with all the training I do and how much of my mental energy is occupied by this nonsense on a daily basis.
Nos vemos no Caminho! Here I go!!

*Oh lord, I hope I didn’t jinx myself there…
